Progress, not perfection, and beginnings
On January 28th, 2013, I went in for the yearly under-the-hood inspection at the doctor's (read: gyo exam). For some reason, after years of being chubby/heavy/overweight..whatever you want to call it, *this* time, I got pissed. Not at society, not at fast food companies, not at my family...I was royally pissed off with MYSELF!
I was angry, and anger makes pretty darn good motivation. I was ready to change. I was done being fat, out of shape, and unhealthy. I dusted off the gym membership I had signed up for back in September, enrolled in a fitness class at school, started reading up on healthy recipes, and I was off!!
Today it's exactly 2 months later, March 28th, 2013. I have lost 15 pounds, about 2 inches off my waist and hips (rough estimate because my initial measurements weren't as accurate as I'd like), increased the speed at which I walk comfortably from 2.5 mph to 3.1 mph, increased the speed at which I can run from 4.0 mph to 5.0 mph, and increased the time I can run from 15 seconds to 1 minute. I've also decreased my mile time from around 22-25 minutes to 17:23.
I now have to wear a belt with my former 'tight' jeans. Even my heart rate is better, both resting and run/walk.
No, I'm nowhere near my goal yet, but I am SO thrilled with my progress so far!
My highest weight was 230. On 1/28/13 I was 208. I am now 193. My goal weight is somewhere between 120-130. Not sure yet, since I know muscle weighs more than fat and I am more concerned with being FIT than THIN. Thin looks good in clothes...fit looks good naked!
My goals:
Lose about 85 lbs (weigh 120-130lbs)
Run a 10 minute mile
Squat 200 lbs
Single-digit clothing size
Run a 5k (no walking)
Perfect blood pressure/cholesterol
Exactly one month from yesterday (April 27th) I am doing my first 5k. It's also an obstacle course! (warriordash.com) I know I won't run the whole thing. Won't even come close. And that is totally fine. Because a year ago I would have told you I could never DO a 5k, not at all. This year, I'm registered for 2 of them!
